The e-zine devoted to spreading cultural awareness around the world
Women's Issues

Women's Issues is the column about women and their contributions to history, science, family life, literature and more. Women's issues is a celebration of all women everywhere. As we have had our share of sadness, oppression and great pain, we also have had moments of great victories. Since the beginning of time we have been subjugated into the role of acting behind the scenes, whereas men ruled the world.

This column was written for everyone who is interested in knowing how women's history is different from the classical views written by men. This column is writen to give everyone interested an appreciation for women of all cultures and how we survived, co-created, and fashioned the world we live in; past and present.

The Women's Issues column celebrates women and finally gives us the voice we have deserved for so long. Men will see women in a new light, and women will appreciate all the great women who have gone before us and how each and everyone of us fashion our present and our future everyday.

And now for the story:

Title: Women as property: No rights under the law - Part 1

Excerpt: It is hard to believe but women were not always persons. They were not individuals and so they had no rights. Women were properties of their father and when they got married they became property of their husbands. Because they were property and not people, the history of women worldwide is not particularly fair. Women's rights have long been neglected and remain this way in many parts of the world. Thankfully women in Europe and North America have made many gains in women's issues and human rights. We will look at these amazing women from poets, to suffragettes, to feminists and beyond, in this women's series.

This guided visualization takes you through a process about living an integrated life. There is a section in it about dealing with the expectations of your work place whether self-imposed or otherwise.

I encourage you to read the visualization then close your eyes to work your way through it. If you need to open your eyes to remind yourself of the next step, please do so. Then close your eyes and continue with the visualization.

1. Get comfortable in a quiet location. I like to sit with my feet flat on the floor and my hands resting in my lap with the palms up and open. Having your feet on the floor helps you to root in the earth. Having your palms open indicates your willingness to receive. If you have physical challenges and my preferred position is uncomfortable, please choose the location and position that works best for you.

2. Now, notice your breathing. Follow your breath as you breathe in and as you breathe out. Breathe in easily and gently. Breathe out easily and gently. Take several easy, gentle breaths. Now, gradually deepen your breathing. Follow your breath as you breathe in and as you breathe out deeply and completely. Now, give yourself permission to relax. Feel yourself relax.

3. Now, take this opportunity to reflect on your life. As you continue to relax, take look back over the past week of you life. How would you describe it? Are you living an "integrated" life? That means making conscious choices and having time for each part of your life. Or would you say you are "sleepwalking" through your life. That means life has become busy. You are spending your time trying to keep up. You are making few conscious choices. Or are you somewhere in between? That means in some parts of your life you make conscious choices while in others you are sleepwalking through your life.

4. Now, take a few deep cleansing breaths. Breathe in through your nose. Now, breathe out forcefully through your mouth. With each cleansing breath, let yourself release any tensions or concerns that may have arisen when you reviewed the past week of your life. Take 3 cleansing breaths and feel yourself release easily and gently.

5. Now, open your consiousness to all the wisdom that is available to you. What small steps can you take to live a more integrated life? Notice as the ideas present themselves to you. Know that you will remember each idea when this guided visualization is over. Continue to allow the ideas to come into your consciousness. When the flow of ideas has stopped, allow yourself to relax once more.

6. Now, look over the list of ideas that came to you. Which ones would be easy for you to implement? Which ones would take a bit more effort? Now, imagine yourself implementing one of the simpler ideas. Where are you? Who is involved? What time of day is it? What are you wearing? What can you see? What can you hear? What can you taste? What can you smell? What can you touch? What are you doing? Imagine the situation in great detail. See yourself successfully implementing your chosen strategy. What does this success mean to you? Take a moment to savour your success.

7. Now, do you feel tied to work due to a smart phone? If yes, continue with this guided visualization. If no, go to the last step and begin your return to regular consciousness. Now, back to the smart phone: do you do this on your own or is it an expectation of your workplace? If this is something that you do on your own, ask yourself if being "on call" is in your highest good. If you have a family, is it in their highest good? Do you give up anything in the rest of your life by being tied to work?

8. Now, if you received guidance that being tied to work through your smart phone is in your highest good, take a few deep breaths and relax. You can then go to the last step and begin your return to regular consciousness. However, if you received guidance that changes are needed, open your consiousness and ask for guidance about the steps you can take. Know that you will remember the guidance you receive when this guided visualization is over.

9. Now, these next steps are for those of you who keep your smart phone with you and on after hours because it is an expectation of your workplace. Open your consciousness and ask what, if anything, can be done at this time to address this situation at your workplace. Your guidance may say that nothing can be done at this time. You can ask the question again later and see if circumstances have changed.

10. Now, if you received guidance about steps that could be taken at your workplace, ask for guidance about which strategy to implement first. Let the answer come into your consciousness. Now, imagine yourself putting this strategy into action. Now, imagine yourself implementing this strategy.

11. Now, begin your journey back to regular consciousness. Begin to notice your surroundings. Notice any noises in your surroundings. Notice where you are sitting. Notice your breathing. When you are ready, return to regular consiousness. Stretch and open your eyes, ready for whatever comes next in your day. Know that you will remember the guidance and ideas your received during this guided visualization.

Note: If your guidance told you that there is a better time to work on the issue of smart phones, I encourage you to use this guided visualization again in a few weeks or months. Circumstances may change at your work place and make it possible to implement strategies to cut the ties to work through smart phones after work hours.

To freedom of choice and an integrated lifestyle,
Karen

I was watching the news recently and there was a feature about peoples' busy lives. The feature described busy individuals and families feeling rushed saying there was too little time in the day. Now, those of you who have been reading Good Vibes with Karen for a while or have an understanding of energy work know what this means. Yes, you got it! The people described have told the Universe there is too little time so there is too little time. From an energetic perspective, what we focus on expands. So feeling a time crunch on a regular basis can turn into a lifestyle issue of too little time.

The other issue the report described was our increasingly plugged-in world. Many people carry smart phones from work with them even when they are not working. This can turn into being "on call" and having little real time off if handled poorly. Are you tied to a smart phone? Do you put in extra time for work after hours? If this happens occasionally, that is OK. Sometimes there are times when things do need to get done. However, if this is an expectation and happens on a regular basis, I encourage you to take action.

I believe that it is important for us to live integrated lives. An integrated life means that there is time for work, for home, for play and whatever else matters to you. I avoid the term "balanced" life since that makes me think of a balancing act. All the balls are in the air. For me, it is only a matter of time until I drop one! Yes, you caught me. That is a less than stellar description of balance but that is what it means to me. I am juggling the balls that make up my life and one or more is sure to fall. As you can tell, juggling falls outside my skill set. ;~}

I would much rather have an integrated life where there is an ebb and flow amongst the parts of my life. Sometimes one part may be more dominant than the others, then it shifts. The key here is to remember and honour all the parts of your life. Demands in one area may shrink the time available in other areas. However, please keep active in all the areas even if the time is less. When we are in demanding circumstances, it is even more important to live an integrated life. We need the relief provided by the other parts of our life. We can re-energize ourselves with play, time with family, etc.

Back to being tied to work with a smart phone. Do you keep your work smart phone with you and on after hours? Now, the important question: is this an expectation of your workplace or is it something you do on your own? The answer to this question matters. If this is self-induced, i.e., you are doing it on your own, you have options. You can probably turn your smart phone off if you keep it with you. Or you can leave your smart phone at work locked in a drawer. You can free yourself from being connected to work 24/7. You then can turn your attention to the other parts of your life. If this is too radical for you, turn the smart phone off when you leave work and only check it once or twice during your off hours. Give yourself the opportunity to enjoy the other parts of your life without the demands of work hovering in your subconscious or your consciousness.

However, if having your smart phone with you and on after work hours is an expectation of your workplace, it is time to take action. Research has shown that people who live an integrated life are more productive. Studies have shown that people who work long hours beyond the usual work day become less and less productive. Your employer will get more productivity from you if you get the opportunity to live an integrated life.

The key to living an integrated life is remembering that you do get to choose. We can fall into habits and make choices by omission, i.e., just letting things happen. This can lead us into a "sleepwalking" lifestyle. We can become like hamsters on a wheel and keep the wheel spinning. Is this really what you want? Or would you rather make choices consciously whenever possible? Making conscious choices on a regular basis frees us from "sleepwalking" through our lives. You and your family have the right to make the choices that are appropriate for you. Maybe you can release some of the busyness that has built up in your life and take some time to smell the roses. The choice is yours.

Wishing you the freedom gained by choice and an integrated lifestyle,
Karen

Every single day around the globe, inside each and every country, inside
each and every local community, within each and every house, school as
well as location of business, an unseen fight is happening.

It's the battle in opposition to sickness spread by viruses, bacteria
and fungus. The checklist of health dangers is lengthy and also
unpleasant: H1N1 (Swine Flu), Influenza A, Staphylococcus aureus, MRSA,
VRE, HIV 1, Salmonella, E. coli – to name only a few.

These threats cause extraordinary misery and much illness. Often, they
cause death. The threats are invisible. They strike young and old, men,
women and children, without regard for race or nationality.

A lot of antibacterial products exist – but many are not really
successful. The majority of make use of alcohol or chlorine bleach, so
that they are usually harmful to human beings and also hazardous for the
environment.

But we’re not helpless against these silent, invisible threats. After
almost a decade of research and development, science has found a new way
to defend our families, homes, schools and businesses against the germs
that surround us.

The answer will come by means of a clear, odor free fluid disinfectant
referred to as IV-7 Ultimate Germ Defense™.

Exactly the same technological know-how which powers IV-7 Ultimate Germ
Defense™, in concentrate form, is actually highly effective enough to
purify a gallon of normal water – along with charitable contributions of
the product have been made by means of the Red Cross as well as other
humanitarian agencies to purify water right after 100 % natural
disasters including the tsunami and earthquakes inside China and Haiti.
Potent enough to be the 1st brand new antibacterial technology approved
through the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in thirty years.

Potent enough to destroy viruses and bacteria in as quickly as thirty
mere seconds – a considerably faster kill time compared to typical
products.

Powerful enough to give 24-hour residual protection on hard surfaces –
which other products can’t.

It's not only powerful, however it gained the EPA's "Category IV"
listing, that is the lowest toxicity and implies that -- as opposed to
other products -- no hazard or precautionary labeling is required. Free
of alcohol, bleach or other toxic ingredients.

If IV-7 Ultimate Germ Defense™ sounds extraordinary, it really is.

It's patented and registered by the U.S. government.
