I was born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona and grew up staying active and enjoying the outdoors. However, I always loved to eat and see now that my unhealthy relationship with food began early on.
Due to my love of exercise, I was able to maintain a healthy weight through high school. It was during my first two years of college that I first put on weight, gaining about 40 pounds. Thus began my cycle of gaining and losing weight that eventually had me over 100 pounds heavier than I am today. It’s sad to say, but I actually spent about 15 years of my life “obese”. During that time I learned a lot about dieting and was constantly looking for ways to lose weight. I’d lose some then gain it back, plus more. But it was the emotional piece of the puzzle that I unknowingly ignored.
In April 2001, fat and unhappy, I decided that enough was enough. I wish I could pinpoint exactly what triggered my decision, if only to help others who are in the position that I was. Looking back, I believe it must have been divine intervention and the first steps in leading me to where I am today.
It took me 18 months of dieting and exercise to loose 115 pounds. I have been able to maintain my overall weight loss since 2002, however there have been times that my weight as gone up 20-30 pounds. Realizing that there are other people dealing with similar struggles and my desire to make a difference in someone’s life by sharing my story, I founded Monarch Balanced Wellness. Maintaining a healthy, balanced life is an ongoing process, and I can help “Empower You to Live Well”.
